But where do we actually have to go? The map below shows the habitat of the orangutan. A long time ago, about 10,000 years ago, the orangutan lived all over Asia, from India to Australia. The area it lives in has considerably decreased because of the destruction of the rainforest and the growth of the human population in Asia. Today, the only place you can find the orangutan is Indonesia: in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. And that's where we are going now to find him! It isn't easy to see an orangutan in the forest, because they are shy and only live in the highest treetops. It's a good idea to be well-equipped so you can see and hear everything in the forest. Here is a list of things to put in your rucksack so you can enjoy your adventure to the full. They are not essential, but are useful to take along.
